Medicine“I am so tired. Do you know why I am so tired?”
This is a common question I get asked by patients as well as friends. Fatigue is normal during certain situations such as physical activity and during or after stressful periods. But sometimes we can’t seem to find a reason why we are so tired. There is no way to say why someone is tired without getting a full examination and having some tests run.
A few common reasons include:
1. A poor diet – If you are not getting the nutrients you need, your body is not able to function on optimal levels. At Echelon-Health, we run tests to see if our patients have any deficiencies as well as provide access to a registered dietician and nutritionist to help you create the right program for you.
2. Not getting enough sleep – Are you getting 7-8 hours every night? Most people do not get the right amount of rest. Some people are able to fall asleep but then wake up in the middle of the night while others have a hard time falling asleep. Let us help you figure out how to get more sleep by making recommendations on sleep time rituals, food choices, and possible supplements or medications to help.
3. Anemia – Anemia is caused by a deficiency of iron in the blood. This can be checked with a simple blood test that we can do right in the office. We can help make recommendations on diet as well as iron supplements that make the most sense for your situation.
4. Exercise – Exercise plays such an important role in making us feel alert and energized. Even as simple as adding a 10 minute walk to your daily routine will make a difference in how you feel. We also have our FIT CLUB that combines functional training with a fun, group atmosphere.
5. Diabetes – When your blood sugar is too high, your body cannot metabolize it correctly. High sugar can upset your whole metabolism, causing you to feel fatigued. Diabetes can be checked with a blood analysis at our offices.
6. Thyroid Issues – If you are having problems with your thyroid (hypothyroid), you may experience fatigue, hair loss, insomnia, weight gain, and other symptoms. We can test your thyroid and advise you on the best and healthiest ways to get back to feeling great.
7. Heart problems – Problems with the heart can wreck your overall energy level. If you have a family history of heart disease or abnormal heart rhythms, it’s always a good idea to get checked out for heart problems. We can check several different factors and help you to reduce your risk of heart disease.
