RIP Gregg Allman

Gregg Allman, vocalist, organist, and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, died on May 27, 2017 at age 69.

Gregg Allman

Mr. Allman lived a life of acclaim, despair, triumph, and tragedy. When he died he left behind a musical legacy that is integral to rock history.

As the days pass we are made more aware that more of the most important members of what we call Rock n’ Roll will pass into history. As the founding members of seminal acts approach their 70s and 80s, the reality is that many will soon be gone.

Gregg Allman’s first solo album came at a time when the Allman Brothers Band was facing a break-up, the first of several that would occur throughout the band’s multi-decade run. Released in 1973, Laid Back boasted some of Allman’s more personal musical choices. From gospel, to soul, to a reworked Midnight Rider, which is arguably better than the ABB version.
