Concierge (Sports) Medicine
Tommy McElroy, MD
FOR GOOD OR BAD, ‘sports medicine’ is primarily associated with athletes. Sports medicine can refer to athletic training, primary care sports medicine physicians, and orthopedic sports medicine surgeons. When people ask me if I only take care of athletes I tell them, ‘No, I did a sports medicine fellowship to make myself a better family doctor.’

Back in the old days family doctors took care of whole families, delivered babies, and did minor surgery. They’d set bones and everything. So for me sports medicine makes me a more complete family physician and by combining it with a concierge medicine practice, I can take care of about 98% of what my patients encounter definitively.

I take care of flu, abnormal cholesterol, high blood pressure, hormones, lacerations, fractures, depression, and I do school physicals plus everything else in between. And above all I see my patients whenever they need me and get them back to living life to the fullest. We can communicate by audio or video at any time of day via cell phone or computer. I can evaluate a patient’s twisted knee in Colorado or football player with possible concussion with the click of a button. That’s what I love about what I do!
