Now we learn that scientists at Boston University have engineered a new, let's call "novel", covid virus with the spike protein of the Omicron strain with the envelope and nucleic acid of the original strain (via UK Daily Mail). So basically they took the highly contagious attachment protein from the current less lethal variant and attached it to the business end of the early, deadlier version.

Now if this ain't a recipe for problems I don't know what it is. But then again, how much worse could it be than what they are probably cooking up in Wuhan as we speak.
